How to Transfer Your Binance Authenticator to a New Phone After Upgrading

2026-03-27 · 7 min read
Methods for migrating your Binance-linked authenticator to a new device, covering both scenarios: with and without the old phone.

Upgrading to a new phone is great, but many people find they can't log into Binance afterwards -- the Google Authenticator 6-digit code has vanished. Don't panic, this is a common issue with several solutions. Register a Binance account and back up your authenticator from the start. Get the Binance APP on your new phone to prepare.

Why the Authenticator Disappears After Switching Phones

Google Authenticator generates codes based on a "seed key" stored locally on your phone by default. New phone, no key, no codes. This affects all platforms using Google Authenticator, not just Binance.

Old Phone Available -- Three Methods

Method 1: In-App Export

Fastest way, one minute: Old phone Google Authenticator > Menu > Transfer accounts > Export > Select Binance > QR code appears > New phone Google Authenticator > Transfer accounts > Import > Scan QR code. Done.

Method 2: Through Binance Security Settings

If you can still log in (using SMS or other methods): Binance APP > Security Settings > Google Authenticator > Change Authenticator > Scan new QR code with new phone > Enter new code to confirm.

Method 3: Using Backup Key

If you saved the 16-character backup key during initial setup: New phone Google Authenticator > "+" > "Enter setup key" > Enter your saved key. Done.

Old Phone Gone

If old phone is broken, lost, or sold and you have no backup key -- manual reset required.

  1. Open Binance login page, enter credentials
  2. At verification screen, select "Verification unavailable"
  3. Submit identity materials: ID photos, selfie with ID and date, email/phone confirmation
  4. Wait 3-7 business days for review
  5. After approval, old authenticator is unbound, set up new one

New users who register should save their backup key immediately.

How to Prevent This Problem

Enable Google Authenticator Cloud Sync

Open the app > Sign in with Google account > Confirm sync is enabled.

Switch to Authy

Authy has built-in cloud backup and multi-device sync. No more worries when switching or losing phones.

Bind Multiple Devices

When setting up the authenticator, scan the QR code with two devices simultaneously (e.g., phone and tablet). Both generate valid codes.

Enable Multiple Verification Methods

Enable Google Authenticator, SMS, and email verification simultaneously in Binance. Get the Binance APP and complete setup in the Security Center.

FAQ

Q: Is my money safe during the reset period? Yes. Trading and withdrawals are locked during review. Q: Do both Google and Microsoft Authenticator work? Yes, any TOTP-based app works. Q: Reset was rejected? Usually due to unclear photos or mismatched info. Resubmit with better quality. Q: Is Authy really better than Google Authenticator? Each has pros and cons. Authy's cloud backup is more convenient; some worry about cloud security. With Google's sync feature, the gap has narrowed.
