Preparing for Binance KYC identity verification but unsure what documents to submit? Different verification levels have different requirements. This article helps you understand everything you need to prepare, so you can avoid repeated submissions due to rejected documents.

If you don't have a Binance account yet, register a Binance account first. We suggest getting the Binance APP in advance — taking document photos on your phone is more convenient.

Documents for Basic Verification

Basic verification (Verified) is the most fundamental level. Binance accepts any one of the following three document types:

National ID Card

The most commonly used document for mainland Chinese residents. You'll need to photograph both the front and back. Requirements:

  • Must be a second-generation ID card
  • Must be within its validity period (expired IDs are not accepted)
  • Name, ID number, photo, and other information must be clearly readable
  • Temporary ID cards are not accepted

Passport

Suitable for users who prefer passport verification. You'll need to photograph the personal information page (the page with your photo). Requirements:

  • Passport must be within its validity period
  • Photo, name, passport number, and other information on the personal info page must be clear
  • If there's a signature page, that needs to be photographed too

Driver's License

Driver's licenses from certain countries and regions can also be used. Requirements:

  • Must be a valid government-issued driver's license
  • Must have a photo on it
  • All text information must be clearly readable

Additional Materials for Advanced Verification

Advanced verification (Verified Plus) requires proof of address documents in addition to basic verification. Acceptable proof of address includes:

Bank statements: A bank statement from the last three months showing your name and residential address.

Utility bills: A utility bill (water, electricity, gas) from the last three months containing your name and address.

Government-issued address proof: Such as a residence permit or household registration.

Credit card statements: A credit card statement from the last three months.

Note: The name on the address proof document must match the name on your submitted ID document.

Photo Requirements for Documents

The quality of your submitted document photos directly affects whether your verification passes. Pay attention to the following:

Shooting Environment

  • Choose a well-lit area, avoiding direct strong light that causes glare
  • Use a solid-color background (white or light colors work best)
  • Avoid shooting in dim environments

Photo Quality

  • The document must appear completely in the frame — no corners can be cut off
  • Resolution must be high enough that all text is clearly readable
  • Don't apply beauty filters or other processing
  • Supported formats are JPG and PNG, typically no larger than 5MB

Common Mistakes

The following will cause verification failure:

  • Blurry document photos
  • Excessive tilting angle
  • Glare on the document covering key information
  • Fingers blocking document information
  • Using photocopies or screenshots instead of original photos

Facial Recognition Requirements

In addition to document photos, KYC verification requires facial recognition:

  • Face the camera directly, keeping a level gaze
  • Ensure sufficient and even lighting — don't face against the light
  • Don't wear hats, masks, sunglasses, or other obstructions
  • Don't wear heavy makeup — keep a natural appearance
  • Follow system prompts for specified actions (blinking, nodding, turning head, etc.)

Special Requirements by Region

Mainland China users: Second-generation ID cards are recommended for the highest approval rate. Passports also work, but ensure the info page photo is clear.

Hong Kong users: Can use a Hong Kong ID card or passport.

Taiwan users: Can use a Taiwan ID card or passport.

Overseas Chinese users: Can use an ID document issued by your country of residence or a Chinese passport.

Pre-Submission Checklist

Before submitting, cross-check against this list:

  • [ ] Is the document within its validity period?
  • [ ] Does the name you entered exactly match the document?
  • [ ] Is the document photo clear and complete?
  • [ ] Is the photo free of glare and obstructions?
  • [ ] Does the photo format and size meet requirements?
  • [ ] Is the lighting sufficient for facial recognition?

Document Security Reminder

Many people worry about whether it's safe to submit ID documents to Binance. As one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, Binance uses industry-leading data encryption and secure storage technology to protect user information. Submitted documents are used solely for identity verification and will not be used for other purposes.

However, for safety:

  • Only submit documents through the official Binance website or APP
  • Never send document photos to anyone claiming to be "Binance customer service"
  • Delete document photos from your phone after submission to prevent leaks

Preparing the correct documents is key to passing KYC smoothly. As long as you follow the requirements above, most users can pass verification on their first attempt.
